PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING.

Coins and medals are sold at so much per piece, no matter how many in a lot, and no lot will be separated, except proof sets, which are sold per set, or as one piece. If a lot contains say 10 pieces and you wish to pay $2 for it, bid 20 cents on the lot. The auctioneer will accept an advance of 1 cent up to 50c., then 5c. up to $2.50, when 10c. advance must be bid, up to $10, when no advance under 25 cents will be accepted. You can bid anything up to 50c., after that the bid must be 55c., or 60c. Such offers as 51c., $1.01, etc., are unavailable. Remember do not bid a lump sum for a lot, but by piece.

Auction sales are strictly for cash. Parties unknown to me and bidding for the first time must either forward a deposit cov- ering at least 25% of their bids, or give bank or other reliable reference.

Forward your bids as early as possible, as thousands of bids have to be entered. Do not make ridiculously low bids, such as 10 and 15c. on foreign silver coins worth several times over as bullion. Write your bids plainly, with a pen if practicable. I have taken special pains to carefully and fairly describe each lot.

Where the number of pieces in a lot is not given after the description, there is but one piece in the lot.

All coins, etc., are genuine unless otherwise described.

My charge for executing bids will be 5%. Remit by money order or New York draft, as the usual exchange fee will be de- ducted from checks.

A printed list giving prices realized for each lot at the sale will be mailed on receipt of 25 cents.

Extremely line, and very rare. Betts No. 521.

^$*^14 a 1776 New Hampshire Cent. Cedar tree without ground or roots. American liberty. Date. 1776. Rev. Harp. Very good. Engraved. Unique. Crosby, P. 176. 'AYe have seen one specimen similar (this is the piece) to the last in design, but with the date 1776 barely legible, not struck in dies, but engraved, probably as a pattern of the time. This is owned by Charles M. Hodge of Ncwbury- port. It is shown in Fig. 28b, and its obverse in Plate*’ AH. No. 4. Weight 127 Grains.” This is the identical coin referred to in the foregoing, and this and the fol- lowing piece arc the same coins from which the cuts for

Infant Hercules in bis shield-shaped cradle strangling a serpent in each hand; Minerva standing and repelling attack of British Lion, and protecting him with shield surcharged with lilies of France, and against which lion has his forepaws. A beautiful original. Copper. Very rare. Very tine.
